Arkanoid Evolution is based on concept of classic brick breaking games but with different flavour. It's a newer version of Arkanoid game released 3 years back by Taito. This version of the game has more variety of power ups and paddles. There are 5 worlds of 12 levels each. This new version has nice and colourful graphics and each world has it's own different background.
There are various modes in this game:
- Mission Mode: Destroy all the bricks that form labyrinth traps in each world.
- Quick Game: Play the stages randomly. The aim is to progress as far as possible.
- Time Attack: Destroy as many bricks as possible within the given time limit. Each brick will yield valuable extra seconds which will be carried over to next level. Attempt to pass as many levels as you can and gain the highest score!
- Catch Plasma: Catch the green plasma balls that fall out of the top of the screen to gain a huge points boost and extra lives. Avoid the red ones!
- Frantic Mode: Bricks start to fall when the time runs out. Press fire for the catapult hit.
This game has tons of new power ups.
- Expand: Lengthens the vaus.
- Divide: Splits the energy ball into three extra balls.
- Player: Gives you another vaus.
- Force Field: An electric barrier appears at the bottom allowing the vaus pilot to miss the ball once.
- Mystery: Random selection of either power ups or power down.
- Smart Bomb: Press fire to detonate the exploding ball.
- Catch Ball: The ball sticks to the vaus.
- Mega Ball: A ball which destroys all it touches.
- Cluster Bomb: Press fire to release a cluster of bomblets.
- Polarity: On pressing the fire key the ball bounces off an invisible horizontal wall.
- Laser: Equip the vaus with gun barrels, press fire to shoot laser beams.
- Pulse Cannon: Drbs will move in and detonate destroying any nearby bricks.
- Machine Gun: These drones appear at sides of the screen and shot at bricks.
- Laser Cannon: Fire a powerful beam that destroy all it touches.
- Blitz: Fires a missile into centre of the screen.
- Twin: A twin vaus appear in parallel at the top of the screen.
- Magnet: A magnet that changes the direction of the ball when pressing up.
