Update Nokia 5800 XpressMusic to Firmware V21.0.025

In an earlier post, I shared the update that Nokia recently released the firmware update V21.0.025, but when i tried to update my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic with Nokia Software Updater( NSU ). It was not showing any updates to install.

Today Sasuke at Symbiangalaxy posted a hack to update to latest firmware. In case you are not able to update it with NSU, you can try this. I tried this myself and it worked. My device is now updated to latest version.

Here are the steps to update your Nokia 5800.

Press *#0000#. It will show device updates screen

Go to options and select 'Check for Updates'.

It will prompt for internet access, accept it.

Follow the instructions and it will update your Nokia 5800

Note: Don't forget to take backup of your cell before doing any kind of software update. The total download size is 5 MB. Update is free but data charges will be applicable as per your service provider.

Unfortunately, I did not experience any major improvements in this firmware update. But there are 225 reported improvements and bug fixes. New changes are made mostly in the UI side. Attached here is a video of changes in this firmware posted by N o k i a A d d i c t . c o m.

Nokia Announces Limited Star Trek Edition Version of 5800 XpressMusic

Nokia announced that they are going to release limited edition of its 5800 XpressMusic with Star Trek branding all over it. The limited edition will be full of exclusive Star Trek content and it will be available from the start of May.

The phone will be loaded with a special 'Phazer' application. This edition includes four special animated screensavers, three wallpapers, eight ringtones, including 'red alert', 'phazer shot' and 'Kelvin Communicator'. The limited edition will be available in blue, red and black/silver colors.

How to Configure Yahoo! Messenger in Nokia 5800 in-built IM application

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic device comes with an in-built IM application. In this post, i will explain the steps to configure this application to work with Yahoo! Messenger.

Step 1: Go to IM application and follow the instructions given in the following images.

Step 2: Click on servers and define a new server as shown in the following images. Write imps.msg.yahoo.com in Server Name as well as in Web Address.

Step 3: Define Access Point. Select from available access points as shown in following images.

Step 4: Fill your Yahoo! username and password as shown in the following image.

Now you are ready with Yahoo! Messenger on your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. You will see all your friends and you can send messages to them.

Limitations and Problems:

Only up to 30 friends are displayed. Can't add more than 30 contacts.
I was not able to send message from my PC messanger to mobile IM client. But i was able to receive messages from mobile IM client. I feel it's one way from mobile to PC, not the other way.

PacMan Game is a Hit on Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

Few days back, In my other blog, I provided some game downloads for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Today when i saw the number of downloads for those games, I am surprised to see PacMan on the top. PacMan is a flash based arcade game and i have no doubt about its popularity till date.

Within 20 days, More than ~~1100~~ 2026 downloads have already taken place. Among new and popular games for Nokia 5800, PacMan is going strong and taking a lead followed by PopCap Bejeweled and Bubble Poper. I really enjoy PacMan on my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. How to Define Yahoo! Mail Box in Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

This is going to be a big image based post where I will take you through the steps required to setup Yahoo! mail box in your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic device. You can easily define Yahoo! mail box with the help of steps given in following images.

Step 1: Go to Messaging--> MailBox as shown in the following images.

Step 2: Click on yes will take you to following screen. Click start to proceed.

Step 3: Enter Email address and password as shown in following images.

Step 4: It will automatically define the Yahoo! mail box for you as shown in following images. Click ok when wizard is completed.

Step 5: As shown in following images, Click on connect to mailbox and wait for it to connect to Yahoo! server and update your mail box.

Now your mailbox is ready. You can check your mails from mailbox as shown in following images.

Enjoy Yahoo! mail on your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. Press Exit and you are out of your mailbox.

How to Disable D-Pad for Flash and Java Apps in Nokia 5800

Sometimes when you install and launch any Java or Flash application in your Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. It shows you a d-pad like the one shown in the following image. Here we are taking example of e-buddy mobile messenger application.

But sometime you really don't need this d-pad because these applications can be run by just touching. In that case, you wish to remove it. Here is the way, you can get rid of d-pad for any application.

Step 1:
Go to settings--> Application mgr.--> Installed apps. -->the-application

Step 2:
Right click on the application you selected in step 1 and select Suite Settings. It will open a screen as given in the following image.

Step 3:
Select On-Screen Keyboard option and the select off as given in the following image.

Now you are ready to use our e-buddy application without any d-pad as shown in the following image.

In the same way, you can again have your d-pad when needed just by selecting Game and navig. keys option.

The best thing to compare is the price. There is a big difference between the price of Nokia 5800 and iPhone. A Nokia 5800 XpressMusic will cost you around 380$ and an iPhone will cost you around 800$.

Nokia is trying to give more or less same features of iPhone with a low cost attached to it. So what did you decide? Going for Nokia 5800 XpressMusic or still looking for an iPhone.
